Lortab Addiction

What is Lortab and why is it prescribed?

Lortab is the marketed brand name for the compound medication containing hydrocodone and paracetamol. Other brand names include Anexsia, Norco, and Vicodin. All of these are analgesics or painkillers which are typically prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain and discomfort. Unfortunately, Lortab is a major drug threat according to the DEA due to its popularity with recreational drug users. Lortab addiction can result because the drug is an opioid-based painkiller that results in tolerance build-up and eventually dependency.

Based on its effectiveness, it is overly prescribed by many physicians today and can easily lead to addiction, whether it is taken according to a prescription or used recreationally. It is a powerfully addictive substance and today there are numerous Lortab addiction programs available at a majority of the addiction treatment and recovery centers throughout the US. In many instances, the existence of a Lortab addiction is not always obvious and some cases are not as apparent as others.

The “red flags” or warning signs of addiction to Lortab

In order to determine if you or a loved one is suffering with Lortab addiction, you will want to look for the following side effects or signs. If you notice any of these or a combination of them, you should consider them as red flags and that an addiction to Lortab is present:

  •  a noticeable decrease in a person’s mental and physical capabilities
  • various allergic reactions
  • chronic fatigue and sleeplessness
  • constipation
  • drowsiness when under the influence
  • dry mouth
  • erratic fluctuations in moods
  • nausea and vomiting
  • respiratory depression

It is not uncommon for individuals to consume alcohol in conjunction with their Lortab addiction as this intensifies the high that is experienced. This can also be life-threatening and become fatal.
