Oxycodone Addiction
What is Oxycodone?
Oxycodone is classified as an opiate analgesic (painkiller) and is normally prescribed for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. It is derived from Thebaine, an opiate component that functions by altering the way your brain and central nervous system responds to pain. It is also available in combination with acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen in the following brand names:
acetaminophen – Endocet, Percocet, Roxicet, and Tylox
aspirin – Endodan, Percodan, and Roxiprin
ibuprofen – Combunox
Oxycodone has gained considerable favor among the medical community because of how effective it is and the fact that it has a lower addiction rate than what morphine does. However, the drug is very popular with recreational drug users and oxycodone addiction has become a serious public health concern.
