The Process of Alcohol Rehab

Rehab is different for everybody. The factors of age, level of use, state of health, religious backgrounds, and the willingness of the individual have to be considered when developing a treatment plan. There is an answer to any problem, and regardless of severity a solution can be reached.

There are many steps involved in alcohol rehabilitation. Despite the differences in individual cases there are key steps that are relevant to anyone with an alcohol addiction. The first step is to evaluate the situation and to identify the existence of the problem. This is sometimes the most difficult step as the addict often refuses to admit to themselves or to others that their drinking has spiraled out of control. It is left to the family, friends, or law enforcement to perceive the issue and to pursue possible solutions.

The next step is to decide what type of treatment the individual would benefit from the most. There are many areas that are of importance in this consideration. While it would be ideal to not have to focus on level of care in dependence with the issue of time and money, this is not always the case. Treatment can be quite expensive and not everyone has the means to enter a residential facility. Once the treatment has been chosen the individual will be evaluated to determine the level of damage that has been done. This will provide answers as to what type of treatment plan should be formulated.

Achievement of sobriety is a necessity at this point in the process of alcohol rehabilitation. This is accomplished through detoxification which varies in form in accordance to the type of facility. Detox can be quite painful depending on the level of severity. In some cases the addict has to be tranquilized during the process as the state of withdrawal causes seizures. While medicating the addict is sometimes considered a necessity there is always the danger of developing an addiction to the substitution. There are more holistic approaches that focus upon the benefits of nutrition and vitamin supplementation as the answer to the extremities of withdrawal. These methods have been proven to be quite successful in establishing balance between the mental and the physical needs of the individual.
