Alcohol Rehabilitation Center

What are alcohol rehabilitation centers?

The alcohol rehabilitation center is an addiction treatment and recovery facility that offers individuals who are suffering with alcohol dependency a place for healing, healthier living, and recovery support. The alcohol rehab programs that have enjoyed the highest level of success are those that employ certain elements that help to enrich the body, mind, and spirit of the suffering individual. Needless to say, entering an alcohol rehab program is considerably more effective than trying to overcome the addiction on your own.

What is involved in the alcohol rehab process?

Detoxification – the initial stage of recovering from alcohol dependency. It involves stopping the consumption of alcohol and enabling the body to cleanse itself of the harmful alcohol toxins and residues that have resulted from the addiction. It is during this stage that the individual encounters the withdrawal symptoms that are common during this part of the process.

These symptoms oftentimes include anxiety and depression, blackouts and seizures, chills and sweating, irritability, and radical mood swings. Relapsing may even occur. The detox process can last anywhere from several days up to a couple of weeks while the withdrawal symptoms typically peak about three to four days into the process.

Counseling and therapy sessions – the core of the alcohol rehabilitation center program is the counseling and therapy sessions that the individual is required to attend. These sessions are conducted with licensed, professional counselors and therapists teach the individual about alcoholism, what triggers their addictive behavior, and how to prevent relapsing. There are group and individual sessions that the client must attend.

  • Group sessions – involves meeting with other recovering alcoholics just like themselves in order to break down the walls they have built around themselves, gain the support from others, and share their personal experiences.
  • Individual sessions – these sessions involve more private, one-on-one interaction with an addiction treatment and recovery specialist. This gives the individual and the specialist a chance the events and/or issues in the person’s life that may have caused the addiction.

Aftercare and support – once the individual completes the alcohol rehabilitation center program, it is time for them to return home to their community. This can sometimes be difficult because of the challenges that they may be up against such as:

  • A lack of understanding from those who have never experienced alcohol dependency and been treated for it
  • Distraction and stress from everyday life
  • Temptation from seeing their old friends and places that can trigger their addictive behavior
