Alcohol Treatment Rehab

What is alcohol treatment rehab?

In the simplest of terms, alcohol treatment rehab is a program or a series of processes that enable a person to stop drinking alcohol when they are unable to do so on their own. They are given educational materials, learn relapse prevention techniques, taught life skills, and are provided with activities or other programs that promote mental and physical health and wellness while undergoing the rehab and recovery process.

When does a person need alcohol treatment rehab?

Every day, there are tens of millions of individuals worldwide that consume alcohol and whether it is beer, liquor, or wine, drinking alcohol is the fabric of many different cultures and societies. However, for a small percentage of these different cultures and societies, drinking alcohol oftentimes becomes a serious compulsion and addiction is inevitable. For these individuals, alcohol treatment rehab becomes necessary. So how do you know if and when you need to enter an alcohol addiction rehab program?

Many individuals remain in a state of denial and intervention becomes necessary while others don’t pursue alcohol treatment rehab until they realize that their lives are spiraling out of control. If you notice that any of the following signs or symptoms applies to you, then you are probably a candidate for an alcohol treatment rehab program:

  • You cannot function throughout the day without drinking.
  • You drink alcohol and use other substances such as cocaine, marijuana, or other substances that are potentially addictive.
  • You drink despite the adverse effects it has on you and those people in your life that are close to you.
  • You drink to escape your problems or reality in general (e.g. the pressures and stress of everyday life, on the job, or in school)
  • You engage in binge drinking or start drinking early in the day and continue until the end of the day.
  • You prioritize locating more alcohol over all your other daily responsibilities.

If you have noticed that any one of the above signs or symptoms (or a combination of them) apply to you, then you should consider the getting professional help provided by an alcohol treatment rehab facility.

The 3 stages of alcohol treatment rehab

The majority of the alcohol addiction rehab programs that are available are comprised of three distinct stages – detoxification and withdrawal, group and individual counseling, and aftercare programs or support networks. By far, the detox and withdrawal process is the most unpleasant of the three, but the program becomes progressively easier with each stage and more freedoms are granted as you continue through the alcohol treatment rehab.
