Codeine Drug Rehab
About codeine addiction
One of the opiate based medications that is used because of its analgesic (painkilling), antitussive (cough suppressant), and anti-diarrheal (self-explanatory) properties. Unfortunately, codeine is used recreationally and can be very addictive. Typically, it is not available without a prescription of some type, but in other countries, it can be purchased over the counter. Despite its unavailability without a prescription in the US, it is still trafficked illegally on the streets along with other prescription medications.
Although the DEA does not consider Codeine as a primary drug threat in the US, they do still caution people about its addictive qualities and the withdrawal symptoms that oftentimes occur when its use is discontinued. Codeine typically comes in either syrup or tablet form, but its analgesic properties are still the same based on the concentration of the dose that you ingest. However, the syrup is the more popular of the two forms where any recreational use is concerned.
The effects of codeine abuse
Despite the recreational use of codeine, abuse of and addiction to the drug is oftentimes the result of a legitimate prescription for cough suppression, diarrhea, and pain. In these cases, the individual does not use it recreationally. However, its availability on the streets makes it a popular recreational drug. It is enjoyed because of the euphoric effects that it produces as well as how it can numb emotional pain.
As the addiction progresses, the individual usually finds themselves in a state of mental obsession with increasing cravings for the drug. The body’s tolerance for the drug builds quickly so that the individual continues to ingest larger doses of the drug in order to achieve the desired effects that it provides them with. Once a person has progressed with the abuse and the addiction is apparent, a codeine drug rehab may become necessary.
We are here to help you with your codeine addiction
The Narconon Freedom Center offers codeine drug rehab programs that can be tailored to an individual’s specific addiction treatment and recovery needs. We normally do not try to resolve abuse and addiction issues using any medications. However, in extreme cases where the abuse and addiction have been long-term or severe, a medical detox may be required. So depending on your particular circumstances, you may or may not have to undergo a medical detox based on our evaluation of your specific situation.
Whenever possible, we prefer to eliminate the addiction using a prescribed combination of proper nutrition and supplements or vitamins in order to treat you so that you can start recovering as quickly as possible.
