Ultram Drug Rehab

What is Ultram and what is it used for?

Ultram Drug RehabUltram is one of the trademarked brand names for the narcotic-like analgesic known as Tramadol (generic).  It is a centrally-acting painkiller that relieves moderate to moderately severe pain.  Ultram has a wide range of treatment applications including:

  • acid reflux
  • fibromyalgia
  • restless leg syndrome

Interestingly enough, the Ultram’s creation stemmed from the fact that there has been growing numbers of widespread abuse of and addiction to powerfully addictive painkillers which are being illegally trafficked on the streets throughout the US.  These analgesics are a component of the DEA’s family of primary drug threat categories and are now considered as major public health threats as well.

Although Ultram has less abuse and addiction potential than other prescription painkillers, it is still being taken recreationally by many individuals.  Ultram does not produce as great a high as what is experienced with some of the more potent prescription painkillers on the market.  However, the addiction to Ultram can be as serious as with these other analgesics.  Additionally, the detox and withdrawal periods involved can be just as arduous as the more potent drugs in this classification of painkillers.

Detox and withdrawal symptoms

Depending on the duration and severity of an individual’s abuse of and addiction to Ultram, a medical detox may or may not be necessary.  In any event, a person’s detoxification off or the drug can be long and painful as with other opioids.  Some of the detox and withdrawal symptoms that are most commonly experienced are:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • intense pain
  • increased seizure risk
  • nausea and vomiting
  • restlessness of the legs

Be aware of the fact that there is a greater risk of seizures if an individual attempts to quit Ultram abuse “cold turkey” without medical supervision.  Detox and withdrawal symptoms will typically peak within 24 hours in most cases but they can endure for as many as 3 or 4 days while the individual is in an Ultram drug rehab program.
