Xanax Drug Rehab

What is Xanax and why is it prescribed?

Xanax Drug RehabAnother one of the short-acting, brand name medications in the benzodiazepine family is Xanax whose generic name is Alprazolam.  Its primary use is the treatment of anxiety disorders that are moderate to severe in nature such as panic attacks and other disorders of the social anxiety type.  As with other benzodiazepine-based medications, Xanax displays all 5 of the intrinsic characteristics of this drug:

  • amnesic
  • anticonvulsant
  • anxiolytic
  • hypnotic/sedative
  • muscle relaxant

It is oftentimes prescribed as a treatment for the types of anxiety that are associated with depression.  Xanax is available in extended-release (timed release) or instant-release form.  Within the first week of taking the drug, it begins to relieve the symptoms it is being taken for, which is most likely one of the reasons that it is such a highly abused medication and why there are so many Xanax drug rehab programs available.

Xanax is also a member of the category of substances that the DEA currently views as being one of the 6 primary drug threats in the US, specifically illegally trafficked prescription medications.  Additionally, it is considered to be a serious public health threat because of its high potential for being taken recreationally and this abuse leading to dependency and addiction.  However, long-term prescribed usage of Xanax can also lead to this.

Signs of addiction

Although most addictions to Xanax occur by virtue of it being so widely prescribed, the recreational use of it can lead to an addiction as well.  Whether you have been taking Xanax under the care of a physician or you have been using the drug recreationally, should your need to be relaxed and sedated become a constant craving, there is a good possibility that a Xanax addiction is present.  If you need to take increasingly higher doses of the drug to achieve the desired effect, this is also another sign.

The Narconon Freedom Center can help

We have the most successful addiction treatment and recovery programs in the country when you compare us with the traditional facilities out there on the market.  Granted, the traditional facilities may bring results, but they will most likely be temporary because they take the conventional one-size-fits-all approach to addiction treatment and recovery.  This is why the individuals who go through their programs eventually relapse 80% of the time once they return to society.

That won’t happen when you enter one of our Xanax drug rehab programs.  We offer alternative treatment and recovery therapies so that you will recover and remain substance-free for life one you return home to your community.  If you would like more information on our Xanax drug rehab programs or if you have further questions, please contact us at the toll-free phone number listed at the top of the page.
