Drug Treatment Clinic

US Drug addiction statistics

In the most recent annual report released by the DEA, they stated that there were currently 6 substances that are classified as the primary drug threats in the country.  These include:

  • Cocaine in crack or powder form
  • Heroin
  • Marijuana
  • MDMA’s such as Ecstasy and other “club” or “date rape” drugs
  • Methamphetamine
  • Prescription medications

Health organizations and medical professionals now consider these to be serious public health threats as well.  This is based in the fact that there are some 40 million reported cases every year involving death from overdose and serious illnesses that are drug abuse related.  Additionally, there are now over 25 million individuals in the US today aged 12 years and older, that are in need of a drug treatment clinic to effectively treat their addictions so that they can experience a successful recovery in the process.

Not all addiction treatment and recovery centers are successful

An addiction treatment and recovery facility’s effectiveness is typically measured by the therapies offered and the success rate of these programs.  Today, there are two types of facilities – the traditional and the alternative drug treatment clinic.  Although they both have the same goals with their clients, the similarities between the two typically end there.  Here are some key differences to be aware of when comparing the two:

  • Traditional facilities look like clinics or hospitals and their appearance oftentimes intimidates the individuals entering them.  Conversely, the alternative drug treatment clinic is residential in appearance and provides the client with a homelike environment complete with many of the amenities they are accustomed to at home.
  • Alternative facilities employ more modern and innovative therapies as well as educational materials to supplement the treatment and recovery process.  On the other hand, the traditional facilities lean towards the older, more conventional ones that are ineffective and out of date, hence their higher failure rate.
  • Traditional facilities treat every client with a one-size-fits-all approach to addiction treatment and recovery as if every individual will respond in similar fashion.  The alternative drug treatment clinic realizes that no two individuals are ever alike and neither are their personal needs.

Additionally, the alternative facility realizes that the client has specific needs on not only the physical level but the emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs as well.  They also realize that certain behavioral and mental disorders could be at the root of the addiction.
