History of Narconon Freedom Center's Drug Rehab Program

Narconon Freedom Center didn’t just develop its drug rehabilitation program with its 70% permanent recovery statistic overnight. The fact is the Narconon Program has long been delivered around the world for 40 years with similar success rates no matter where the program is done.

Narconon first originated in 1966 when William Benitez, an inmate of Arizona State Prison, came upon a book in the prison library written by American author and Humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard.

After reading this book Mr. Benitez made a steadfast decision and noted it on his wall calendar. “Decision to set up Narcotic Foundation”.  On the 18th of August 1965 he approached Prison Officials to request permission to set up the program. Given that such programs were rare in prisons at the time and the request was coming from a felon and repeat drug offender, his request and subsequent requests were denied for 6 months. Mr. Benitez persisted and finally on February 19, 1966 founded the Narconon (NARCOtics-NONe) program.

The six months Mr. Benitez had to wait had not gone to waste. He used this time avidly reading several of Mr. Hubbard’s well known books. Using these principles Mr. Benitez and the first 20 inmates, all of whom were hard-core heroin users, were able to break their long-term drug habits. The keynote of the Narconon program being that an individual is responsible for his own condition and that anyone can improve his condition if he is given a workable way to do so.

From this foundation Narconon grew and as it grew so did its successes. Today Narconon spans the globe with 120 drug prevention and drug-free social education and rehabilitation centers in 44 countries and tens of thousands of successful graduates who continue to remain drug-free.

As the years progressed Mr. Hubbard responded warmly to Mr. Benitez’s requests for help with his Narconon program.  As the first Narconon program did not deal directly with withdrawal symptoms, in 1973 after further research to aid Narconon staff to help others through withdrawal, Mr. Hubbard developed a means of safely withdrawing someone from drugs with minimal discomfort.  Narconon adopted these to include drug-free withdrawal as part of its program making it even more embracive.

Similarly, in 1978 after years of pioneering research and development by Mr. Hubbard, the Narconon program adopted the Narconon New Life Detoxification Program.  This deep tissue-cleansing regimen has proven to be immensely valuable for reducing the long-term physical and mental effects of drug residuals and other toxins in the human body.  The results are nothing short of astonishing with students regularly reporting remarkable increases in clarity of thinking, peace of mind and well being as well as greatly reducing or eliminating cravings for drugs that stem from hidden drug toxins.

Narconon Freedom Center delivers the full Narconon Program and has been successfully doing so for 7 years but its roots go deep in a widely tested and successful program spanning over 40 years and tens of thousands freed from drug and alcohol addiction.
