Narconon Drug Rehab And Government Agencies Curb Oxy Contin Addiction In Michigan

Oxy Contin abuse has increased 31% in the State of Michigan, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency of the state. This is one of the highest selling prescription drugs that are available to those looking for their high and many who take this medication long term will not admit their addiction to it because it was prescribed. As a result we find those addicted to the drug committing crimes such as break-ins, forged prescriptions, stealing from friends, and also doctor shopping. It has gotten so bad that many people will see multiple doctors for the same diagnoses and collect the prescriptions.

“More and more doctors and pharmacies are jumping on board with the DEA of Michigan to help stop this cycle that has been created” says Megan Werner Brennan, Public Contact Supervisor of Narconon Freedom Center, a non-profit drug rehab located in Albion, Michigan. “One of the hardest issues that we face with putting an end to the prescription drug abuse is that these pills are that are being shared or sold. Addicts travel to nearby towns, find multiple doctors, and gather prescriptions, and then have them filled at different pharmacies.”

To help handle this, the State of Michigan has created MAPS (Michigan Automated Prescription System which can monitor the use of prescriptions of Schedule II to V drugs that are administered from 3,000 pharmacies. Through this, they are able to flag suspicious refills and requests. With Oxy Contin being a Schedule II Drug, this is monitored now closer than ever before. “This is a great addition to the state’s fight on drug abuse. This system is such a benefit to so many across the state and also helps protect those who really do need the prescription” says Brennan.

The other solution is an effective drug rehab program as offered through Narconon Freedom Center. The Narconon Freedom Center drug rehab program specializes in Oxy Contin abuse and achieves an over 70% success rate for permanent sobriety.

“We still have a fight on us to stop the abuse, but with drug rehabilitation that works and the government taking action on forged and illegal prescriptions this is a good starts,” adds Brennan.
