RSS Narconon Freedom Center Opens Its Doors In Observance Of Red Ribbon Week
Since Red Ribbon Week’s national recognition in 1988 by President Ronald Regan and First Lady Nancy Reagan when they served as Honorary Chairs, millions of people each year come together to raise awareness for the need for drug, alcohol, tobacco and violence prevention. Narconon Freedom Center with its longstanding drug awareness and drug prevention programs is holding an open house this Sunday to observe Red Ribbon Week.
Red Ribbon Week honors Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena who in 1985 was kidnapped and brutally tortured and murdered by drug cartels who sought revenge for Camarena’s successful efforts that led to the discovery and eradication of multi-million dollar drug production operations.
Narconon since 1966, with it’s over 120 centers, has been an organization dedicated to the elimination of drug abuse through drug prevention, drug education and drug rehabilitation worldwide. During Red Ribbon Week all Narconon centers, including Narconon Freedom Center will put additional focus on drug education and prevention in order to stop substance abuse before it starts.
In addition, it’s fitting that in the wake of the 22 October the DEA announced Project Coronado’s; a massive coordinated takedown of drug operations we launch into Red Ribbon Week in the state of Michigan.
Although the DEA seized 62 kilograms of cocaine as well as a host of other drugs in its raid, the DEA notes cocaine and crack cocaine trafficking and abuse remain at high levels in Michigan. Out of a population of just over 10 million, 734,000 people in the state have admitted to illegal drug use in one month alone. In addition, over 217,000 reported needing help in the form of successful drug treatment.
With figures like these Red Ribbon Week and drug education and prevention were never more needed in the state.
