Treating Substance Abuse Issues

The Best Approach to Treating Substance Abuse Issues

Replacement drug therapy often leaves addicts still on drugs and hopeless.

The New York Times recently released an article on the drug maker AstraZeneca stating that this drug maker was found to have buried studies on the drug Seroquel. The article states that AstraZeneca hid information on some of the dangerous side effects of Seroquel  that have now brought 9,000 personal injury lawsuits on the drug maker from 15,000 former people that were prescribed this drug.
Seroquel was initially approved to treat those that were diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia and is currently also being prescribed to those who have been diagnosed with depression, insomnia, and ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). The drug is currently under fire for this as to many it is considered “off label marketing” as well as because of it’s dangerous side effects.
Seroquel is also one of the drugs used in a new form of “drug treatment” replacement drug therapy. This type of treatment consists of an approach where those struggling with substance abuse issued are dually diagnosed and often prescribed drugs to treat their addictions. But often times this therapy has proven ineffective as many addicts who are currently undergoing it will end up relapsing or will become addicted to the replacement drug themselves as well as contracting illnesses because of the side effects of such drugs. Effects that are often hidden from public view.
“I have working with thousands of people with substance abuse issues,”  says Erica Catton, CCDC and Director of Expansion for Narconon, “and so many of them that have had replacement drug therapy have told me that they relapsed back to their drug of choice within weeks and even month after starting the therapy. There have also been many complaints about the side effects of some of these drugs. The only thing I have ever seen that produces a long-term result for permanent sobriety is a drug free treatment program.”
One such program that has delivered this approach with positive results for more than 40 years is the Narconon program. The Narconon Freedom Treatment program uses a totally drug free approach to handle addiction and has achieved a positive success rate for more than 40 years doing this.
